Eleni Vernadaki also produced important work in the area of monumental ceramic murals for public and private buildings. She started her work in this field at a very young age – only 29 – in collaboration with Yiannis Moralis. She proceeded to undertake both the design and execution of a large number of compositions for buildings, while also continuing her collaborations with other artists in this area.
In the murals which Vernadaki designed, the main objective was the harmonious coexistence of each composition with the structural elements of the space and the natural environment. The compositions are simple and unpretentious. Rough textures, the colours of the clay and austere geometric elements play leading roles in compositions that convey an “earthy” feel to the space. With these compositions, Vernadaki managed to present inspiring applications of ceramic art in the human social environment.
