On 9 April Vernadaki's solo show Mementoes had its opening at the Polyplano Gallery. Vernadaki exhibited 30 works made, not of the clay that had won her acclaim up till then, but of synthetic materials, mainly nylon, gauzes, plastic flowers and plexiglass combined with mirrors. The exhibition continued to 8 May and was curated by Maria Kotzamani. In fact, it was the first time the artist had shown work other than ceramics in an exhibition. For her, this move away from clay did not mean leaving pottery behind but was yet another exploration of materials and of the concept of the art object and its purpose in people’s everyday lives. As she observed in an interview: “These works are the result of an artistic process of exploration in the same way as I make a ceramic, a table or a piece of jewellery”.
